I had a Discovery Call earlier this week with another podiatry clinic owner. He was working like crazy treating and patients keeping the wheels turning.
I remember what that was like, feeling like you were trapped on the hamster wheel unable to slow down because it all depended on me and had no time to clear my head and work out a plan.
I remember thinking if I could just take a week off from the clinic to figure it all out it would be fine.
Anyway, over the course of the call it was obvious that he had the basis of great business but was just stretched way too far to take it the next level.
We went over the main things that I felt he needed to work on to start to climb out of the situation I could see he was in.
Even though I purposely didn’t get into too many specifics straight away I could see towards the end of our designated time that he was starting to get overwhelmed.
I told him to take some time to think about what he wanted to do next and to let me know but made sure he understood I firmly believed that with myu help we could very quickly turn things around for him.
Well he sent me a message a day or too later telling me that he had decided to leave off joining my Coaching Programme for a while.
He said he wanted to let things as they were for the moment as he didn’t want to make any major changes to his clinic just yet.
Now I could have judged him for not making a change to his current situation which he told me himself had put him a position he had swore he would get into when he started his clinic.
Don’t get me wrong, I respect his choice but I know its a mistake.
How do I know you might ask?
Because I made the exact same mistake years before.
Back when I was working 60 hours a week and seemed to never have any money left over at the end of the month, or certainly not enough to make it worth all the crap I had to deal with I did almost the exact same thing.
When I first heard about the concept of getting help with fixing my business I thought it was too good to be true. I spent countless hours looking at websites and packages and following coaches on facebook.
I almost joined programmes over and over, especially at the end of another week being a busy. In retrospect I was busy fool.
In truth I was scared of making any decision.
What if I couldn’t control the consequences?
What if I spent a lot of money(which couldn’t spare) and is was wasted?
We all see this in work every day with patients who come in and ask you for help with pain that they have for months or years. You know you can help and are excited about the process and the outcome you can see, but they don’t go ahead.
Human nature is to seek safety when we feel threatened and doing nothing is safer than taking a risk with something new.
I spent nearly 2 years “doing my own thing” before total desperation drove me to send that email and get help.
I now know that the delay cost me at LEAST €100,000 in lost profits.
I understand the benefit of paying for expert help. This gives a short cut to the goal I want and I have learned my lesson the hard way. Every successful business owner realises they cannot do it all alone and seeks help.
So my own experience means I totally empathise with the Podiatry clinic owner on the call and do not judge him.
When he’s ready I’ll be here and I know together we can make sure he reaches his goal of Earning More, Working Less & Living Life.
